Horizon Forbidden West Features Improvements to Depth of Field, Shadows, and More on PS5 Pro

Studio director Jan-Bart van Beek touts a Quality Mode that “matches or surpasses” that on PS5 while running at 60 frames per second.

After its initial rating by the ESRB, Guerrilla Games officially announced that Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered is coming to PS5 and PC. Of course, given its proximity to the launch of the PS5 Pro, players may wonder how it leverages the hardware. There’s also some curiosity about improvements to Horizon Forbidden West, which was previously confirmed to support the console.

In a new PlayStation Blog post, studio director and art director Jan-Bart van Beek said that Forbidden West offers “visual quality that matches or surpasses the Quality mode on the regular PlayStation 5, but now at 60 FPS” on the PS5 Pro (up from 30 FPS). The Decima Engine has also received improvements for better depth of field, skin and hair shaders, god rays, shadows, and clouds.

Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered natively supports the PS5 Pro out of the gate with a “range of graphical features” receiving improvements. Though van Beek didn’t outline them, he touted “ultra-high fidelity at blazing fast framerates.”

Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered launches on October 31st. It will retail for $49.99, though original game owners can pick it up for $9.99. Of course, for those on PC, a PlayStation Network account is mandatory.
