Yesterday at Sony’s State of Play, PC versions of God of War Ragnarok and Until Dawn were announced. While that in itself is good news, it seems Sony is doubling down on its requirement on PlayStation Network (PSN) accounts in order to play these games.
This was spotted on Until Dawn’s Epic Game Store and Steam pages where it mentions that “PlayStation Network Account required, subject to the PlayStation Terms of Service and User Agreement.
This is the same case for God of War Ragnarok, with the game’s Steam page highlighting the requirement even.
This comes hot at the heels of Sony trying to change Helldivers 2’s on PC to require PSN accounts, which backfired horribly until the company decided to pull back this requirement.
While this a PSN account was also required for Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut on PC, that game did feature a multiplayer component in the form of Legends mode. God of War Ragnarok and Until Dawn are completely single-player affairs with no multiplayer of any kind offered.
It seems this will be the requirement for all PlayStation games being ported to PC, and I’m not sure how players will react to this. Just yesterday, PlayStation co-CEO Hermen Hulst mentioned that while they are releasing live service games day and date on PC alongside the PS5 version —which is happening with Concord — they are aiming for PC players to be enticed to pick up a console in order to play the single-player sequels that will be released first on PlayStation consoles.
