The co-op third-person shooter becomes the first Sony game to surpass 100,000 concurrent players on the platform.
Helldivers 2 certainly looked promising in the lead-up to its launch, but the level of success it has enjoyed right off the bat has been a little surprising to see. Upon release, the co-op third-person shooter became Sony’s biggest launch on Steam to date with a peak of over 81,000 concurrent players on the platform – higher than the all-time peaks of megatons like God of War, Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered, and Horizon Zeo Dawn – and that number has kept on climbing since then.
At the time of writing, as per SteamDB, Helldivers 2’s peak concurrent user count on Steam is sitting at 119,040 players. Currently, it’s being played by more players than the likes of Call of Duty, Grand Theft Auto 5, Team Fortress 2, and the recently-released Granblue Fantasy: Relink, which has had an impressive launch of its own. Additionally, Helldivers 2 has also become the first Sony-published game to cross 100,000 concurrent players on Steam.
Developer Arrowhead Game Studios recently released a hotfix for Helldivers 2 to address some of its more critical launch issues, including crashes and matchmaking. The developer also intends to release free post-launch content for some time to come in the form of new biomes, enemies, objectives, and story updates, among other things.
Helldivers 2 is available on PS5 and PC.
